uh-oh

Barret goes through the entire day saying two things... uh-oh and Mommy! I've come to realize that Barret's Mommy is really a Mummy and it just makes me laugh. He says it over and over and over again and my response is always, "Barret?" His uh-ohs are really pretty real and he knows just how to use that word, if it is a word.

We noticed that Barret now asks for high fives instead of us asking for them. He will come up to you and hold up his hand and reach out for a hand to hit his. It is so funny to watch.

Today wasn't as nice out as yesterday, but we still made the most of it. We filled it with time on the deck and even took a trip to the post office and then to the park. Barret had a great time climbing around and only put three wood chips in his mouth during today's adventure. He continues to be a bit afraid of the slides but he is warming up to them. He likes to fake Mama out and climb to the top of a slide, sit there, wiggle his body a little to make it look like he is about to fly, and then stands up and walks away. On one of his wiggles though, he managed to wiggle right on down the slide, I think he secretly enjoyed it. We tried the swings again today and I noticed that as long as there was a pretty little girl swinging next to him he was fine being in the swing; all he would do was look at her. However, as soon as there wasn't anyone around him in the swings he wanted nothing to do with them.

When daddy came home from work we played out on the deck a little more and Barret even got to take his FIRST bubble bath. Which wasn't the best bubble bath because we don't actually have any bubble bath solution. Mama just squirt a bunch of body wash into the tub to create the illusion. A bottle of Mr. Bubble is on the grocery list :)

Barret was very interested in the bubbles, I scooped some up in my hand and blew them at him so then he tried to do the same thing, at least I thought he was going to. Instead Barret scooped up the bubbles and decided he was going to eat them; and was very proud of himself for it :)

It's a Beautiful Day!!!

Mama's first day of spring break, and it is beautiful outside. We spent the morning sleeping in, if you call 7:10am sleeping in (I do now), enjoying some wonderful cereal and bananas, running around the house like silly people, and escaping out onto the deck while it was still pretty cloudy and a bit chilly out. Barret found the plant pots that were full of water due to the rain we had last night and was so delighted by them. He thoroughly enjoyed playing and splashing around in the water. Needless to say we had to change our clothes.

Barret refused to take a nap this morning so we got to spend extra time together :) We ate an early lunch, swept, mopped, and vacuumed the kitchen floor (yes, Barret helped). Barret loves to play with mops and brooms and he was having a great time following me around doing whatever I was doing with whatever I wasn't using. It was so much fun!

Later we took a trip to Target to see if we could find some inexpensive outdoor toys so we wouldn't keep playing with the dirty plant pots. We didn't have much luck, but we did score a great bottle of bubbles and a super bouncy ball; and lets not forget the great sunglasses we found in the dollar spot! We spent the rest of the day enjoying the outdoors, taking a great afternoon nap, and grilling out for dinner!

I love this picture.... he just looks like he wants to say "I'm awesome people!"

It wasn't that long ago...

This afternoon I was looking through Barret's videos trying to delete some things off the camera and just really rearranging my photo albums on the computer. I got caught up in watching the videos and oh Baby Barret was SOOOOO cute. (he still is) I can't believe how big he is already and just how much fun he was been to watch grow and learn the past 14 months.

Here are a few of my favorite videos:

I just love his sweet little coos and how little he was!

This one just makes me laugh. I love how big his eyes get and how entranced he seems to be with Boba. (sadly Boba has been missing for quite some time now and we don't know when or where he is going to turn up)

I love to talk

Words Barret can say:

'hot'

Mama

Dada

'thank you'

'es'

NOOOOO

'mine'

Barret can show you his belly and can give hugs and kisses on prompt! I love it :)

Barret is getting so big and is learning so much! He loves to run around the house and play, "where's Barret?!" He also loves to eat, which you all already know. Last night he ate almost an entire Brat for dinner along with his Grandma noodles and oranges.
He has recently discovered grapes and goes crazy for them (don't worry, we chop them up into little pieces). I am still in awe at how little he is compared to how much he eats.

Currently Barrets favorite thing is going up and down stairs. He mastered tthen very quickly and continues to just fly right down them. He normally will walk down like anyone else but just recently realized that it is much easier and faster, probably more fun too, to go sliding down on his belly.

Check out the video :)

It's March already!

March has come so quickly, meaning April will be here before we know it. Therefore we are taking each day as it's own and enjoying every minute of it. Above are a few pictures from when Barret was sick and then some from the Children's Museum.

Yesterday we got to go to the Children's Museum and live it up! Barret had a great time being able to just roam and play with whatever he could find. We played in the water, with music toys, and in the kitchen. He danced, played the keyboard, colored, and even invaded a skit put on by some other kids! He painted, he laughed, and just enjoyed every minute of it. I LOVED it!

Triscuits in the Toaster?

So there were triscuits in the toaster this morning....I know I didn't put them there....but it didn't seem to bother me. As I maneuvered the fork in the toaster to try and pry the triscuits out I couldn't help but laugh. Not two days ago did Barret and I have a snack of Triscuits and cheese, while I thought he was eating them, he was strategically placing them all around the kitchen (there were a few in the dish drainer too). However, none of this matters when your little man is sick (really, it doesn't matter when he is well either). Yesterday brought on an interesting day for Steve and I. Barret took an early nap when I picked him up from the babysitter after work and just didn't seem to be himself. He wasn't interested in eating and he was extremely clingy and even more so whiny. We had made plans to go to Chipotle with some friends, so despite the crabby baby we packed up the car and headed to dinner. Once there, Barret decided he wasn't going to eat dinner either, which he normally can pound down at least half a cheese quesadilla and could probably eat an entire bag of chips if we let him. He was not interested in the slightest bit and just wanted out of there. So, after a long dinner of trying to keep him entertained and happy we walked over to DQ for some ice cream. I just kept thinking, he is his mother's son and what's not better than ice cream? We ordered him his own little cone (which he loves) and wouldn't even touch it. He wanted nothing to do with his ice cream, my ice cream, or even Daddy's Blizzard! What was going on!?! After a sudden outburst in DQ we decided it was time to head out. Mama had a package waiting for her at the UPS store to pick up so we had to drive to the other end of town to pick it up. As we were driving down Veteran's Parkway Barret just whimpered and whimpered. I kept turning around to try and comfort him, offering the various likes: juice, animal crackers, toys, his bear. Everything ended up on the floor. I was getting frustrated and when I looked back to tell him he was just going to have to cry and we would get home as soon as we could, I witnessed the most horrifying thing I've ever seen. Barret was throwing up everywhere. It looked like water being sprayed out of a hose. I panicked and yelled "he's throwing up! Pull over, he's throwing up! Oh my gosh!" I didn't know what to do and I couldn't do anything at the same time. Steve turned around to witness a second spat and we were both in a state of what do we do...There was no where to pull over easily without getting the car bashed into, and there was no way I could take him out of his car seat and pick him up and comfort him. I felt awful and horrible and sick to my stomach all at the same time, but I couldn't help but laugh at the sight I just saw.
Is that terrible of me? To laugh at my 13 month old son who just threw up in the back seat all over himself and he has never been sick like this before? What was wrong with me? Why didn't I cry or rush to his aid by hopping over the seat to sit next to him and comfort him? I'll tell you one thing, probably because I was too worried I was going to do it next.
We finally pulled into a gas station and Daddy ran in to get napkins and I rushed in the back seat, using everything I could find to try and clean him up as best I could. The smell was rancid but the back seat was spared. Our poor sick baby boy was sitting in his throw up and we weren't even close to being home. We had at least a fifteen minute drive ahead of us and I felt terrible.
The entire way Barret was such a trooper and we eventually made it home. We quickly brought him inside stripped him of his clothes and got him in the shower to clean him up and calm him down. As we laid him down in bed for the night I couldn't help but think what a strong little guy he was. Putting up with Mama and Daddy's craziness, our lack of understanding of what he needed and that we shouldn't have gone out, getting sick in the car and not getting any comfort until we got home, and just everything about the night, he handled it all so well.

This morning was supposed to be full of fun and exciting new things, we had planned to go to the Children's Museum and I was so so pumped. But, instead we stayed home and cuddled, took lots of endless naps, and drank a lot of water! It was so fun to see him sit on Daddy's lap while he ate his Eggo this morning (he never sits still, ever!), and to watch him cuddle with Daddy while we watched UP, and even just to feel his strong and endless hugs.
Hopefully tomorrow brings a happy, bouncing, feeling better baby boy, who still wants to cuddle with his Mama and Daddy!
