Busy Busy

Wow, life sure does get busy. I couldn't tell you what we've been doing everyday since I last posted, but I know that there must have been enough to do that I just kept putting off writing a new post.

January is almost wrapping up and I feel like the weather is just getting colder and colder. We have had so much snow this year I don't even know what to do with it all. We still haven't taken Barret out sledding, and I don't think we are going to do that this year. We have been trying to keep him out of the cold as much as possible since he had pneumonia and we don't think he would really find it all that exciting anyway. It would mostly be fun for Mama and Daddy and not really worth all of the getting bundled up for a quick, short trip to a busy hill.

Mama and Daddy did however, get to go out of town without the little guy this month. On Thursday, January 13, we left for St. Louis for a friends wedding. Grandma Boehm came down to pick Barret up and take him to their house for a few days. I'm pretty sure Barret knew what was happening before it even happened, because he was NOT a happy camper that day. I felt so horrible and I was so upset that he kept crying and I couldn't do anything about it. When we talked to grandma that evening after arriving in St. Louis, she said Barret cried all the way to Peoria, when he fell asleep. Poor kid, crying for 40 minutes would surely wear me out too! He wasn't quiet himself that evening, but he soon got it together, and realized he was with people who loved him and had a great time at Grandma and Grandpa's! On that Saturday Barret was picked up by Grandma and Grandpa Gaffney to come back home. He enjoyed his time at home with them and was surprised by Mama and Daddy when we came home early. He was so clingy and just lovey on his Mama and I loved every second of it. However, the next day we realized that Barret now seemed to think that if we were out of sight we were gone for good, and he was not having it. Just stepping out of the room made him scream and when I dropped him off at the babysitters on Tuesday morning, he followed me to the door and cried as I left. Mama wasn't very happy, and the whole day I just wanted to leave work and go get him. But we made it through and I'm sure it will happen again in some way or another. Barret is still a little clingy at times, but I think he has pretty much gotten over the fact that we left him for three days.

The wedding on the other hand was great! Steve and I got a chance to wander around St. Louis on Thursday night and then again on Friday. We went to see The Chronicles of Narnia movie, which was wonderful, and enjoyed a lot of really great food. The rehearsal dinner was absolutely delicious and had 4 courses, if I remember correctly. Saturday brought the wedding, which was really pretty. Brian and Melinda are very simple people, and their wedding was totally them. It was just perfect and we couldn't be more happy for them.

We have also been busy with looking at houses. Steve and I really feel called to go on a church plant in the near future, but have also felt like we were supposed to buy a house (which seems silly if we aren't going to be here long term, but who knows what God's plan is). This one house in particular has just been in our heads since before Christmas. We have gone to look at it four times now and have even taken our parents to look at it just to give it the once over :) We are really excited about it so I will be sure to keep you posted on that.

Baby Boy #2 is coming along just fine as well. We have been busy with Dr. appointments, and now will be even more so because I am officially in my third trimester and am visiting the Dr every two weeks now. Seems like a lot, but I have always enjoyed these Dr. appointments, I think it is because there is something exciting that goes along with them. Barret, on the other hand, really does not like going on these visits, he seems to always think the doctors and nurses are hurting me. I passed my glucose test with flying colors though, so that is a positive and baby has a very strong heart beat. Steve and I have also finally decided on a name and we are very excited!

Tonight Barret showed us that he knows what the word bath means. We always tell him, it's time for a bath and then we go back to his room and get ready and turn the water on to fill the tub, where he decides he is going to practically fall into the tub trying to reach the water coming out of the faucet. Tonight he made a huge mess eating dinner, which was later than normal, and I got him down from his seat and said we are going to go take a bath. Before Steve and I could even get up out of our chairs he was down the hall and into the bathroom standing next to the tub looking at the faucet. It was so cute! I love watching him learn new things.

Barret is also learning how to tell us things. He loves to point and if he's hungry he will go straight to the kitchen and reach up at the counter for something to eat. He really wants to drink from a cup and practices all the time in the tub and the occasional occurrence when he finds a cup on the nightstand (which usually ends with water spilled all down the front of him, all over the floor, and a big goofy smile with a loud giggle followed closely after. All resulting in a change of clothes.

Tooth number 6 has finally popped into view too! We noticed the bump a few days ago, and today it finally gave his pink gums a little white speck.

Oh yes, Barret's one year doctor visit went really well too! He is in the high 50 percentile for everything and the doctor was very impressed with all of his walking.

He is now 30 1/4" tall
and he weighs a whopping 22 lbs 12oz.

He really is growing like a weed :)

Barret's First Birthday!!!!

HAPPY FIRST BIRTHDAY TO MY DEAR SWEET BABY BOY!!!!!

I can't believe a whole year has passed since I first got to hold you in my arms.
I can't believe a whole year has passed since I first kissed your little nose.
I can't believe a whole year has passed since I first heard you cry and I heard your little coo.
I can't believe a whole year has passed since I first felt your love and my heart exploded with more love than I could have every imagined.

I can't believe a whole year has passed since we became a family of three....

I have loved this passed year and all that it has been. Every day has been such a sweet adventure and I have loved seeing Barret grow into the BIG BOY he is now. I have loved seeing him change and learn new things. I have loved seeing him struggle trying to take that next step. I have loved seeing him conquer a new milestone and seeing that big goofy smile on his face. I have loved seeing my baby boy learn to crawl and even walk. I have loved hearing his noises and new sounds he likes to imitate. I have loved every minute of this past year and I would not change a thing.

Barret James, thank you for gracing us with your wonderful presence on this day a year ago. You have made your Mama and Daddy's lives so different, so exciting, so joyous; and we couldn't be more pleased with you.

Happy First Birthday Barret!!!

Pictures to come :)
