The pains of things unseen

There is constant smiling and laughing in the Gaffney home from roughly 6:30-7:30am. We have a good morning party, it seems almost daily, that consists of B eating followed by goofing off until it is time for dad to go to work. As the day progresses, so does the flood of emotion from our little man. But from underneath the chuckles comes a face and a groan that makes grown men cry. Generally the crying comes from an understanding of where the face and groans come from. Ours generally follows a large dinner mainly consisting high iron and low fiber, and we all know I'm taking about some steak! My son has entered a part of manhood I prayed would never befall him, but alas it has. My son CANT POOP! It is a terrible thing to witness a small boy that goes from squeals of joy and jubilation to screams of pain and constipation. But there is a remedy that we have discovered. PEACHES!
It seems as though these miracle fruits are not only delicious and nutritious, they will straight clean you out. Saturday we decided to introduce a little cup of this fruity goodness. Sunday and church was quite the experience, or so I'm told, lol. My little guy was then served these mashed makers of unending joy Sunday and has shocked and amazed yet again. It has been what seems to be two straight days of non stop relief from my little guy. It is a glorious thing to see the look of relief of an ailment a week in the making. Next time reach for the peach!

The Misadventures of Barret J. Gaffney

So far Barret's mishaps in the tub should be at around 15. I just don't know how a person can got to the bathroom in their own bathtub. It is so funny. On monday we put Barret in the tub for a good scrub down after making a huge mess of his rice cereal. I mean literally, it was everywhere, in his hair, on his ears, in his nose, on the carpet, all over the boppy, all over mom's face and even managed to get on Barret's legs (I still can't figure that out). While we were scrubbing him down, there was a jetstream of bubbles making their way out. It was so funny, he just kept smiling and smiling. After about 3 minutes of bubbles he managed to go to the bathroom two seperate times in the tub. Steve and I just can't handle it anymore, and laugh so hard because Barret just smiles through it all. After our bath, I am drying him off with his ducky towel and lathering him up with our 'bedtime lotion' he somehow manages to go to the bathroom again. I couldn't believe it. He had to have let out half of his body weight that night. However, he is still here and still feels just as heavy as before.

Yesterday Barret accompanied me to my staff party where he managed to throw up all over my leg, the diaper bag, the ground, and the chair I was sitting in. I literally have never seen that much come out of him before. The heat did not help the smell. After cleaning it all up (he managed to keep himself clean from this mess) we sat there talking and playing, down goes my full cup of ice water ALL over my legs. I was greatful for the refreshing cool water, and for it to wash away the throw up smell believe me. However, I was very uncomfortable in my wet jean capri pants for the remainder of the party (this all happened within the first ten-fifteen minutes of arriving), and again he managed to keep himself from getting wet.
Oh Barret, you keep us on our toes and we love you so much for it.

On the lighter side Barret went to his first splash park yesterday afternoon when dad got home from work. We decided to take a stroll over to Tipton Trails park and just see what Barret thought about the water outside of the bathtub. Although the weather was uncomfortabley hot, the water was not. He did pretty good though, just observing the water and other kids playing in it. I can't wait to see him in a real pool.

4 months!

I know, I know, Barret has been 4 months for a few weeks but I have been really bad at posting updates on here. Barret LOVES anything that he can bring to his mouth, cups, phones, paper, toys, towels, sheets, you name it. He has become very active, loves to smile, and is very observant. Barret loves to look around and see everything that is going on, no matter where he is, sometimes keeping him from taking his naps.
He is still doing pretty well when it comes to sleeping at night, although the past few nights he has been waking up a minimum of six times. This is frustrating becuase he doesn't even eat at these times, he is just waking up. I'm sure it is something we will overcome.
Barret is finally coming to the end of the massive supply of diapers people bought for us and that we took stock in so we can finally use all of our reusable diapers. We purchased a few more after bringing him home from the hospital that are way better than the ones we already had. They have a shell that you can use multiple times, so you are only switching out the pad of the diaper. I love this, and it makes for a lot less laundry and hassle.
I love his butt in the reusable diapers, it is so big and funny looking!

This weekend Barret is finally going to get to meet some of my wonderful friends and thier kiddos. I can't wait!

Barret's first Flight

chillaxin! So ready for the Texas Sun

Last weekend Barret and I flew down to Texas to see Uncle Jason graduate from BASIC. It was a great experience for Barret and a lot of fun, even though we really missed Dad. It was so great to see Uncle Jason after 8 long weeks. Barret did fantastic on the plane rides until the very last one. I think he was just ready to be home, as was I. Traveling with a child is so much more tiring than I ever thought it would be. Needless to say we made it and had a fantastic time.

Barret had his 4 month appointment two weeks ago: It turns out he is in the 50Percentile for everything. I was really disappointed because I thought he was really tall. His height was 25 inches, weight 14 pounds 6 ounces, and his head measured at 42 cm. He is getting to be so big and is such a tank sometimes. He loves to smile and laugh. We love seeing his characteristics and mannerisms show up!

Roll Over, Roll Over

Barret Rolled Over!!!!!!!!!!!!

Three times in one day. Surprisingly he rolled from his belly to his back. I always thought he would go back to belly, for some reason that just seemed easier to me. But what do I know, I'm just the mom. Barret surprises us more and more each day. He has become very mouthy and handsy. He loves to grab anything he can reach, including cereal bowls, water glasses, phones, etc. Just yesterday I had a bowl of perfectly good cheerios end up in my lap and all over the floor. I guess you could say the messes have begun.
